A Note About NOVA

A Note About NOVA

We’ve added a new tool to our district and school websites. Meet NOVA, our AI chatbot.

Since we last performed a major overhaul to our websites in the spring of 2021, they have served as the primary hub of information for students, parents, employees, and community members. Even other Indiana school corporations tell us they keep an eye on our websites to find out what we're doing and for ideas and inspiration for their own communication efforts.

One thing we know for sure is the prospective new students/families and employees regularly visit our websites to learn about what makes Avon Schools so special and to help them decide whether or not to put down roots in our community.

When we became aware there was an even better way to help guests find information—an enhanced search tool—it was a no-brainer to add it to our sites.

We average well over a million page views a month and our search page is always in the top-10-most-visited pages. It's not that our sites are hard to navigate, but when guests want to quickly find the information they're looking for, the search page has been a helpful way to find it. When we became aware there was an even better way to help guests find information—an enhanced search tool—it was a no-brainer to add it to our sites.

Our new chatbot is not a large language model AI tool like the ones you hear about in the news or that you may use at work. In fact, it's singular area of expertise is the content we've published to our websites. Go ahead, ask NOVA about:

  • how to register children for kindergarten,
  • where to find out about job openings in the district,
  • whether Avon accepts enrollment for students who don't live in Avon,
  • how to get in touch with the school nurse,
  • when spring break begins,
  • or anything else related to Avon Schools.

You'll get a quick, direct answer with links to where you can learn more.

Because NOVA isn't trained on anything outside our district and school websites, you won't get answers if you ask:

  • for help on your child's homework,
  • where the Avon Ribfest is held,
  • what '67' means,
  • when the Pacers play,
  • what's on TV tonight,
  • or anything else that's not published to our websites.

You'll get a polite explanation of the limits of NOVA's knowledge and of its mission to help you navigate our sites.

We're excited to be able to make it even easier for guests to our websites to find exactly what they need, when they need it, making our websites even more effective and helpful.

When you're in need of help, ask NOVA.
